Veer Shah recently joined GL Education from the British School Kathmandu where he was the assessment co-ordinator, taught maths and was a mentor for a group of Key Stage 4 students.
In this webinar, Veer discussed how the school created a visual depiction of these three key pieces of information to identify gaps between aptitude and attainment and investigate how student attitudes were the cause.
Veer describes the action research he and one of the assistant headteachers carried out which focused on different levels of achievement (attainment below, at or above aptitude) and what the attitudinal data revealed about these different groups.
Veer reveals how the insight from the data analysis had a significant impact on his own pastoral care, including:
- Beginning conversations
- Identifying attitudinal barriers and devising interventions
- Understanding needs and working to address them
- Developing trust and a deeper relationship with mentees
- Setting real and quantifiable targets for students to help overcome their barriers and achieve their target grades
