The Progress Test in English provides a practical, reliable and independent snapshot of a student’s English attainment. Ideal as a baseline assessment, it provides an accurate assessment of students’ knowledge, understanding and application of technical English skills (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and reading comprehension (using age-appropriate fiction and information texts). It can be used twice a year to measure in-year progress as well as annually for year-on-year progress.

Use the Progress Test in English alongside your CAT4 and NGRT assessments to provide a fuller picture of your students’ attainment. It will help you understand how their potential in English compares with their actual skills and knowledge, highlighting where they need further support. It will also help you pinpoint gaps in subject learning at both an individual and cohort level, helping you identify next steps for teaching and learning.

The Standard Age Score (SAS) data is extremely useful in allowing us to track value added and see which teaching and learning approaches we’ve used across a term or year have added value.

Robust quality assurance

The Progress Test in English provides a consistent attainment measure. Standardised on over 45,000 children, with regularly verified benchmarks, it will show whether each student is at, below or above the expected level, and will allow you to reliably confirm the accuracy of your own internal assessments, too.

Access granular details

Detailed reports provide a question-by-question breakdown to help you identify those students who may need extra support, and in which areas, building on what your CAT4 and other assessment data is telling you.

Cross-curricular consistency

Use alongside the Progress Test in Maths and Progress Test in Science to ensure a consistent approach and secure understanding across core subjects.

Clear comparisons

Seamlessly compare a student’s ability and potential with their current attainment using Combination Reports that integrate your Progress Test in English and CAT4 data. This helps you easily identify students who are under-achieving, meeting or exceeding expectations.
