Mary de Sausmarez

Mary joined GL Education after an extensive career in sales and marketing, largely in the telecoms sector. She was appointed as Managing Director in April 2023, after several years as Sales and Marketing Director, following the acquisition of the company by Renaissance.

Mary has been instrumental over the past few years in ensuring that teachers and their students are at the heart of GL’s proposition. Her experience delivering the solutions schools need will enable her as Managing Director to maximise the potential and global opportunities now available to GL through its new relationship with Renaissance. Mary aims to build on the success and reputation of the company’s core assessment business by offering educators worldwide more advanced tools and integrated solutions to help them improve student progress.

During her time at the company, Mary’s focus hasn’t been exclusively external. She set up Diversity Matters – GL’s diversity and inclusion group – which celebrates the diversity that exists at all levels within the company and encourages discussion on diversity and inclusion matters in a safe and supportive environment.

In her earlier career, before branching into technology, Mary worked in the publishing sector after leaving Loughborough University. Outside of work, Mary supports a number of charitable bodies. She is a board trustee at Enlighten Learning Trust, a governor at Prior’s Field Girls School, and a member of the Worshipful Company of Educators.
