Mary de Sausmarez has been appointed Managing Director of GL Education following its acquisition by Renaissance, a global leader in pre-K-12 education technology.

Ms de Sausmarez, who was GL Education’s Director of Sales and Marketing, has spearheaded the company’s delivery of frontline services over the past few years, reinvigorating the company’s core offering and delivering a customer-centric business that ensures teachers and student outcomes are at the heart of GL Education’s offering.

GL Education now delivers nine million assessments annually to schools and school groups in over 100 countries worldwide, while Renaissance has a presence in 40 per cent of US schools and a substantial footprint in China, Australia, Canada and the UK.

Outgoing Chief Executive, Greg Watson, paid tribute to Ms de Sausmarez, pointing out that she was instrumental in ensuring the company was aligned with the interests of the educators it seeks to serve: “Mary has been a huge part of our success and it has come from putting educators – the professionals we serve – at the heart of everything we do. She has been emphatic that the company’s values and voice must align with those of teachers and senior school leaders and that we must always look to demonstrate the impact of our products, our support and our data on teaching and learning.”

Ms de Sausmarez said: “I’m delighted to take up this new role. GL Education and Renaissance are standout leaders in education not only because they have unparalleled experience in the sector, but also because they are committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for students and understand what teachers need to support them. Combined, we have an enormous potential to benefit student progress and learning worldwide.”

Joan Mill, Group Managing Director, International for Renaissance said: “We are thrilled to welcome the GL Education team to the Renaissance family and excited about the new role Mary will play within the organisation. Together, our integrated solutions will empower teachers and administrators to manage learning progress and leverage data to impact student growth across the globe.”

The two companies aim to pool their expertise in education technology to offer educators enhanced data and analytics that will give them unique insights into the academic progress and potential of every child.

Ms de Sausmarez joined GL Education in 2018 after an extensive career in sales and marketing, largely in the telecoms sector. Outside of work, she supports a number of charitable bodies – she is a board trustee at Enlighten Learning Trust, a governor at Prior’s Field Girls School, and a member of the Worshipful Company of Educators.
