Our monthly webinar series 'SEND Searchlights' features short, 30-minute episodes where experts share insights and knowledge on all things SEND assessments. Tuesday 16th September (8am – 8:30am UK time)

As many schools return from the summer break we will start the year by re-visiting our conversation on inclusive practice, looking at how, amongst the continuing change in SEND policy, schools continue to innovate and navigate inclusion challenge. To guide our thinking, we will be covering three main themes, that have been highlighted in the recent ‘Inclusion in practice’ report:

  • Early intervention
  • High quality teaching
  • Targeted support

Tuesday 7th October (8am – 8:30am UK time)

This episode will focus on attendance and wellbeing. Attendance remains a top priority for schools, and we're going to dive into how wellbeing can impact attendance and discuss some effective strategies to support improvement in this crucial area. You'll learn practical strategies to enhance both attendance and wellbeing, which will help students thrive both academically and personally.

Tuesday 4th November (8am – 8:30am UK time)

Working memory is crucial for reasoning, learning, and comprehension, allowing individuals to manage tasks and process information effectively. In this episode, we will examine the consequences of poor working memory and discuss strategies to support students' cognitive functioning, enabling them to successfully navigate and engage with their learning.

A little bit more about the facilitators:

Emma Dibden

Before joining GL Education, Emma taught for over 20 years in primary schools across the UK and overseas as a class teacher, SENDCo and inclusion lead. Her prior strategic roles in SEND, and experience of using GL assessments in context, helps to inform her practice as the Assessment Specialist for SEND and Wellbeing.

Polly Marsh

Polly has over 10 years of teaching experience, having worked in both state and independent primary schools. After qualifying as a teacher, she then completed the National Award for SENCo. In 2019 she became a Specialist Leader in Education for SEND and progressed to Inclusion Lead, followed by Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, where she completed her NPQSL.

Debbie Baird

Debbie is a Trainer within the practice team who has a wealth of SEND experience. Prior to joining Renaissance, her background was in Special Education. She worked in a SEMH school for fourteen years working with children aged 5-19 who had complex social, emotional, communication and mental health difficulties across a range of cognitive abilities. She also has qualifications in supporting children with Dyslexic tendencies.
